When
to Go to Ireland
While many choose to visit
Ireland during June, July and August, the Emerald Isle is by no means a summer-only
destination. Except in the southernmost part of the country, the weather does
not fluctuate dramatically throughout the year – the temperature generally hovers
between 40 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit. While the links are open year round, spring
and fall are the driest seasons, and are thus the most hospitable times of the
year for golfing.
Tips
for Golf Vacations in Ireland
Because Ireland's golf courses
are so popular, it is recommended that you arrange
tee times in advance of arriving at each course. This
is especially true if you're planning to travel during
the summer months, when golf season is in full swing.
Often, a green fee pays for an entire day's play,
not just one round. Be sure to specify if you want
to play one round or two and request tee-off times
for both rounds if you are planning to play 36 holes.
If you would like a caddie, arrange this with the
club when you schedule your tee time. Because Ireland's
weather can be wet, bring clothing and golf accessories
that will hold up in the rain. Waterproof golf shoes,
a rain suit and a few pairs of all weather golf gloves
are essential. Pack along a sports or suit jacket,
as many clubs require somewhat formal attire. Bring
enough golf balls, wooden tees and pencils to last
you through your trip, as these essentials will not
always be available. Now that you know the basics,
read through the descriptions of some of Ireland's
finest golf courses, and start making a list of all
the links you have to hit on your trip!
